Umthi Wobom, which means Tree of Life, is a beading project in Cape Town founded by Fietje Pieters, in coöperation with the local organization Kunye.
Ever since the early years some African tribes used this way of beading to give expression to their social status and cultural identity. Unfortunately this tradition now is slowly disappearing. The aim of Umthi Wobom is to restore this tradition and provide well paid and dignified work for women from around Cape Town and refugees from Congo, Burundi, Zimbabwe and other African countries.
By buying a piece of jewelry you become the proud owner of a beautiful handmade accessory whilst supporting a wonderful project. Cherish these jewelry as much as we do!
The jewellery from Umthi Wobom are for sale in our webshop.
